Summer Job as Cold Kitchen Staff at Destination Gotland

Destination Gotland offers a varied and fast-paced job with the goal that everyone traveling to or from Gotland has a top-class experience.

Onboard our restaurant, we serve well-prepared food made from local ingredients, everything from fresh salads to well-filled sandwiches or hearty wraps.

In the kitchen, you will work in a tight team together with chefs and cold kitchen staff. As a cold kitchen staff member, you primarily work on preparing and quality-assuring our cold offerings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. A cold kitchen staff member should also be able to prep and calculate consumption based on passenger numbers and minimize food waste. The job also includes adhering to internal hygiene routines. Dishwashing and cleaning occur daily.

Working Hours:

The seasonal positions we offer are part-time at 75%-95%. The work is structured so that you work for a period and then have time off in a rolling schedule throughout your seasonal employment. For you, this means exciting and fun working days onboard while you can also enjoy everything summer has to offer during your days off on land!

During the summer, our vessels operate around the clock, which means that working hours can be scheduled during the day, evening, and night. Since it is a seasonal part-time position, you will live at home and board and disembark the vessel on all your working days. This means you need to have accommodation in Visby or on Gotland where you can get to Visby harbor regardless of what time your working days start. Since our schedules are based on the vessels' timetables, we cannot adjust working hours according to public transport or your commuting time to and from Visby. Destination Gotland cannot offer accommodation during employment.

Qualifications

To work with us, you need to be at least 18 years old. You do not need to have worked on a vessel before, but we prefer that you have experience in cold kitchen work and basic food hygiene; it is advantageous if you have training in kitchen/restaurant.

Swedish is our safety language, so it is important that you can speak Swedish fluently and understand the Swedish language in both speech and writing. You also have good knowledge of English.

Safety:

Onboard, safety is always the highest priority. As a new employee with us, you will undergo mandatory safety training and a medical examination for maritime employees.

If you are called for safety training, you need to bring an extract from the criminal record. Before a hiring decision, we always conduct a background check and an alcohol and drug test.

At Destination Gotland, we are responsible for one of Sweden's most important routes – the sea route between Gotland and the mainland. Our fast ferries create opportunities for both passenger and freight traffic to travel efficiently between Gotland and the mainland, on the routes Visby – Nynäshamn or Visby – Oskarshamn.

Starting in spring 2024, we will also operate cruise traffic between Stockholm, Mariehamn, and Visby with the vessel M/S Birka Gotland.

We have operated the Gotland traffic since 1998 and are proud of the trust. Formally, the assignment is from the Transport Agency, but in many ways, the assignment is also from the Gotland community. We see it as our task to contribute to Gotland's development by always leading the way and creating opportunities for everyone who wants to travel to and from our island.
